For whom: anyone about to prepare an application with Genesis. No jargon, with examples. The full reference is the Reference Manual v18.
1. What Genesis is
Genesis turns an overwhelming European funding application into a guided, step-by-step path. You add the call, your documents and your partners, and Genesis gives you back exactly what to upload to the official portal: for Horizon Europe, Erasmus+ and Irish funders.
The rule to remember: Genesis structures and checks your proposal. It never decides whether you get funded: official sources and your sign-off decide.
Two people appear in the examples: Marta, a primary school teacher applying to Erasmus+ for the first time, and Dr. Lien, a researcher applying to Horizon Europe.
2. First steps
1.Open https://www.genesisgrants.com and create your account with your email.
2.Pick your language at the top (ES, EN, IT, FR, DE).
3.Keep Simple mode: you will see 5 clear phases instead of 11 technical stages. Expert mode is always there if you want it.
4.Press New proposal and answer the basics: name, framework (Erasmus+, Horizon, Ireland), programme and your idea in two sentences.
EXAMPLE · Marta writes: «Digital literacy for primary schools with teacher exchange». She picks Erasmus+ and the KA220-SCH programme (school partnerships).
3. The call and the deadline
Genesis finds the call for you on the official European portal: by keywords, by exact code, or by describing your idea. When you pick it, it records the deadline and warns you with a traffic light:

You can download a calendar reminder (.ics) and re-check the deadline any time. For national-agency Erasmus+ and Ireland the deadline is typed by hand: Genesis tells you so.
4. Official sources: your safety net
Before you write anything, Genesis loads your framework's official documents (programme guide, portal, rules) and asks one simple gesture: review them and mark them reviewed. That way everything you write later rests on the current version of the rules.
New in v17: when 30 days or less remain, Genesis asks you to re-check sources every 3 days (it was 14). That is the stretch where funders publish corrections, and an unseen change costs points.
EXAMPLE · Three weeks before the deadline, the Erasmus+ guide row in Marta's register flips to «Needs refresh» on its own. She opens it, sees nothing changed, presses «Mark reviewed». Twenty seconds, risk gone.

Each phase closes with a check (gate). If something is missing, Genesis says exactly what: «2 claims without backing», never «something is wrong». You always see one clear action: Continue.

6. Partners and plan, without getting lost
Genesis suggests the typical consortium shape for your framework and takes you to your call's official partner search portals. Every partner has a state (suggested, candidate, confirmed) and the gap list tells you which profile is missing.
The work plan builds from packages and months (the timeline draws itself), budget per partner and risks with mitigations. Starter templates lay the typical structure: amounts start at zero, you put the numbers.
EXAMPLE · Dr. Lien uses the Horizon template: WP1 Management, WP2 to WP4 technical, WP5 Dissemination. She adjusts months, assigns leads and fills in her real budget.
7. Write, review and send
You write in phase 3 leaning on everything prepared. Genesis watches that every important claim has backing: say «we will cut dropout by 20%» with no proof behind it and that sentence stays flagged until you anchor it or remove it.
Phase 4 audits the text against the call's rules (length, organisation, anchoring, consistency, format) and reads it with evaluator eyes. The output is a repair list, not a grade.
Phase 5 generates your package: the text, the source list, the partners, the plan and the submission checklist. The final upload is yours, on the official portal, with everything ready to paste.
8. What is new in versions 17 and 18
•The honesty band. A slim line under the header shows the real state of the control system. Today it says human validation is pending: that is its designed state, not an error. It will change when signed human approvals exist.
•Sources with more context. Each source says how it arrived (official catalogue, live lookup or by hand), who brought it and its route. And freshness tightens to 3 days when the deadline is close.
•An origin tag on every text. Every artefact carries a small tag with who produced it (today: human · studio). When an external model takes part, its tag will look different, in purple. Nobody can edit it.
•A command panel with charts (admins only): indicators with trend, each proposal's progress as 11 dots, and the last 8 weeks of evolution.
•A customer enclave portal (pilot): for dedicated-enclave contracts, a portal where the customer verifies their isolation with one button (Seal Check), sees what has left their enclave and downloads their certificates. It launches when hardware validation closes.

•New in v18: judges with their calibration on display. When a model evaluates your proposal, you will not be asked for faith: each judge carries a calibration record measured against frozen human annotations, and you can consult it. Today the judge panel is pending selection and the system says so, plainly.
•New in v18: a person always signs. The house rule is now written into the product: no model verdict counts without its calibration lineage, and nothing is released without the signature of a named human reviewer. If two judges truly disagree, the disagreement goes to a queue for a named person to resolve.
•New in v18: an AI notice. When you interact with the AI part of the system, you will be told clearly (European law requires it from August 2026). The final wording is under legal review and the interface marks it that way meanwhile.
